Songs We Sing (01.15.2012)

When we sing together, we are corporately singing the praises of our God. It's a participatory activity. "Songs We Sing" is an weekly effort to help us better learn the songs we are singing as well as to gather some small insight into what we are singing. If you'd like a copy of the songs listed, a link is provided (where available).

For the services of January 15, 2012, At One led music and we sang:

THE SOLID ROCK
Written by (Lyrics) Edward Mote, 1834; (Music) William B. Bradbury, 1863. This is another great song about Christ being our only hope and the fact that when we stand before God, we can be clothed in only Jesus' righteousness.

Buy "The Solid Rock" by Charlie Hall.

REDEMPTION HAS COME
Written by Michael Crockett and Daniel Ross, 2012. This is the first original song from At One (a CCJ band). It is based on Revelation 21 and the hope of all things being made new because of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. It's a celebratory anthem meant to be sung with hope.

No official recording exists. Watch the YouTube song teaching video.

HOW DEEP THE FATHER'S LOVE FOR US
Written by Stuart Townend, 1995. This is a song that people often think is an old hymn but is, in fact, relatively new. It's a great song. "Why should I gain from His reward?/I cannot give an answer/But this I know with all my heart/His wounds have paid my ransom." True words. Stylistically, we do this one a bit differently (watch our version on YouTube).

Buy "How Deep The Father's Love For Us" by Stuart Townend.

BECAUSE HE LIVES
Written by Gloria Gaither & William J. Gaither, 1971. I had no idea this song was only 39 years old. This song is a great declaration of faith.

Buy "Because He Lives" by David Crowder Band.

ONLY HOPE
Written by Daniel Ross, 2010. The song is more or less taken from Ephesians 2, a great part of Scripture dedicated to explaining how we are dead in our sins but God's saving grace makes us alive. Verse one leads into a pre-chorus that is a question ("born of man and choosing sin/who will bring me to life?"). Verse two leads into the same pre-chorus but is now a statement ("set me free and now I can see/who will bing me to life.").

No recorded version exists (watch Narrow Path's version on YouTube).
