Songs We Sing (12.25.2011)

When we sing together, we are corporately singing the praises of our God. It's a participatory activity. "Songs We Sing" is an weekly effort to help us better learn the songs we are singing as well as to gather some small insight into what we are singing. If you'd like a copy of the songs listed, a link is provided (where available).

For the services of December 25, 2011, At One led music and we sang:

O LITTLE TOWN OF BETHLEHEM
Written by Phillips Brooks, 1867 and Lewis Redner, 1868. Brooks wrote (Redner wrote the music and was Brooks's organist) about his horseback journey from Jerusalem to Bethlehem, where he assisted with the midnight service on Christmas Eve, 1865: "I remember standing in the old church in Bethlehem, close to the spot where Jesus was born, when the whole church was ringing hour after hour with splendid hymns of praise to God, how again and again it seemed as if I could hear voices I knew well, telling each other of the Wonderful Night of the Savior’s birth."

Buy "O Little Town Of Bethlehem" by Mars Hill Church.

GO TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN
Words: John Work, 1907. Music: African-American spiritual. Let your light shine!

I CELEBRATE THE DAY
