Songs We Sing (12.18.2011)

When we sing together, we are corporately singing the praises of our God. It's a participatory activity. "Songs We Sing" is an weekly effort to help us better learn the songs we are singing as well as to gather some small insight into what we are singing. If you'd like a copy of the songs listed, a link is provided (where available).

For the services of December 18, 2011, Narrow Path led music and we sang:

LIKE A LION
Written by Daniel Bashta, 2009. "My God's not dead/He's surely alive/And He's living on the inside/Roaring like a lion." This is an anthem and one not meant to be sung quietly, but instead with confidence and faith that God is mightier than all things.

Buy "Like A Lion" by Daniel Basta.

COME THOU LONG EXPECTED JESUS
Written by Charles Wesley, 1745 and Rowland Prichard, 1830. A song of longing and expectation for God to free us from sin and bondage.

Buy "Come Thou Long Expected Jesus" by Red Mountain Church.

O COME ALL YE FAITHFUL
Written by John F. Wade, circa 1743. Isn't it cool that songs from 1743 are still relevant today? "Word of the Father/Now in flesh appearing/O come let us adore Him."

Buy "O Come All Ye Faithful" by Narrow Path.

O COME, O COME EMMANUEL
Author unknown (i.e. this one is VERY old - like 12th Century old). Our quasi-heavy metal version has become a favorite over the years. I remember, in 2005, we were scared to play it because of the style. Lyrically, this one is also about the longing and expectation of a Savior.

Buy "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" by Narrow Path.

JOY TO THE WORLD
Written by Isaac Watts, 1719. This song was written about the SECOND coming of Christ and inspired by Psalm 98.

Buy "Joy to the World" by Narrow Path.
